This dissolved oxygen meter is waterproof and field ready. It comes with a dissolved oxygen sensor with a 10 meter long cable for easy field. This field ready meter is ideal for testing dissolved oxygen levels in ponds, lakes, streams, tanks and any other water sample. It features a Horiba 9551-100D field probe which has a 2 meter long cable and is immersible in samples.Determining the dissolved oxygen content of samples is a great way to determine the organic quality of water. Water samples containing very low dissolved oxygen levels cannot support aerobic life forms.This meter also has the ability to test for the biochemical oxygen demand of a water sample. This is simply the amount of dissolved oxygen needed by aerobic biological organisms in a body of water to break down organic material present over a specific period of time. Testing of the BOD is typically done in a lab and monitors the amount of oxygen consumed over a period of time. The Horiba OM-71 meter can use a variety of dissolved oxygen sensors to best suit the testing situation at hand.
